IPTV enters the bathroom

October 2009: OSLO, NORWAY

OTRUM, Europe's leading full-service provider of in-room TV technology and guest services for the hospitality industry, continues to make it easier for hotels to enrich a guest's experience and memories of a very pleasant stay.

To extend its full range of IPTV services even further, OTRUM is collaborating with Videotree, a UK-based provider of water-resistant television systems designed specifically for use in bathroom and spa environments.

"This partnership," explains Nigel Bateson, OTRUM's vice president of products, "enables OTRUM to deliver high-quality IPTV programs, videos and hotel information directly to the room where people prepare for the day or relax in the bath at the end of it - the bathroom."

Videotree's "Videospa IP" features elegantly designed television units and patented technology that allows direct feeds from the network without using an external set-top box. Instead, Videospa IP features an integrated unit that simplifies installation and integration, offering a more complete end-to-end solution. According to Bateson, "It is the only integrated system currently available that can receive streams from the digital IPTV head-end and display them in accordance with the channel listings."

Bateson and Chris Bruce, head-of-sales for Videotree, agree that in-room technology plays a major role within the hospitality industry and is a key component in a guest's hotel choice. With emphasis, Bruce adds, "Making Videospa IP easy to integrate and maintain is a major step forward in technology. Extending the entertainment factor into the bathroom is a major step forward in the hospitality industry."

While Bateson and Bruce both envision Videospa IP as a common addition to a standard hotel experience, they admit that initially it will be implemented by premiere hotels in their executive rooms and suites.

Bjorn Ove Skjeie, OTRUM's president and CEO, says, "OTRUM's goal is always to make it as easy as possible for a hotel to offer its guests what they want most - to be treated with special care and as individuals. We are happy to partner with Videotree and see this market-driven product development that will certainly enhance the guest experience."
